Photofacial

Sun exposure is a significant cause of skin aging, appearing as darker pigmentation spots. These pigmented spots are discolorations of the skin. Photofacials are perfect for those struggling with sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and even enlarged pores. At Revive, our photo facials are performed with the top-of-the-line laser, the Alexandrite laser in the Gentle Max Pro or Lumecca IPL , to maximize results for our clients!

The advantages of this treatment include:

  • sun damage
  • brown spots
  • age spots
  • sun-induced freckles on the hands, chest, and face
  • broken capillaries around the nose
  • Fine lines/Wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores

The Treatment

The laser uses light-based energy to target sun damage, age spots, and freckles. It increases the temperature of the unwanted pigment, which aids in breaking it up.

A photofacial treatment takes between 15 and 30 minutes, depending on the size of the areas to be treated. With this treatment, there is no downtime. However, the broken melanin will rise to the skin’s surface. Giving the skin’s surface a coffee grind or peppering appearance. Your body’s “clean up” system absorbs the fragmented pigmented melanin particles and eliminates them. This peppering is easily concealed with foundation.

Commonly targeted areas are the face, chest, back of the hands, arms, top of the shoulders, and back.

FAQs

About 15-30 minutes or less depends on the size and number of targeted areas.

Patients should expect a mild sunburn-like sensation, possibly accompanied by minor swelling, immediately following treatment. This usually lasts between 2 and 24 hours and can be soothed with ice packs.

A series of 3-5 treatments are recommended, spaced approximately 3-4 weeks apart. With the progression of the treatment, the pigmented spots will start to fade and new collagen growth will stimulate more healthy skin layers. Results are long-lasting and can keep improving over time. Follow-up treatments can help them last even longer.

To reduce the risk of sunburn, darkening, or lightening of the skin, avoid sun exposure for one week after treatments. Use gentle cleansers and an SPF 30 or higher during the entire course of treatment.

A photofacial is not for everyone. Therefore, we only recommend photofacials for skin types 1-3. However, we have many different services including microneedling, which is excellent for all skin types and works on treating the same issues. If you aren’t sure whether a photofacial is right for you, we will encourage you to come for a free consultation.
